FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) -  Frisco Police Cadet Chris Murray passed away on Thursday, December 1.

Frisco Police said he had been hospitalized on November 16 after suffering from a medical emergency while completing the final physical training at the police academy.

"We met while he was serving a church mission," said Chris' widow, Hailey Murray. "And right there he was someone who was willing to give of his own time to serve people from day one when I met him."

Hailey said she was not surprised when husband Chris joined the police academy in July. She said the former Frisco police and fire dispatcher just had a knack for helping others.

"It just fits him it was what he was meant to do... That's what his calling was in life to serve people," said Hailey.

She said at home, Chris was a doting husband and dad to daughter Lorelei.  Hailey is due to have a baby boy in January.

When I first got the call I didn't think it would be very serious," said Hailey about her husband collapsing during training. "I thought he would be sitting up in the emergency room and we were going to figure out why he fainted."

But doctors said Chris was battling a rare condition.

"His kidneys were failing and they realized it was because of the breakdown of the muscles from the Rhabdomyolysis that he had," Hailey said.

During his two weeks in the hospital, Hailey said Chris was always surrounded by family and by his brothers in blue.

The police academy awarded him his graduation certificate in absentia.
