FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) - A Frisco mother says her family's brush with death should encourage stricter laws against distracted driving.

Jillian Dewey and her two young daughters were hit in a head-on collision Friday. All three went to the hospital.

"I have some long bruises. My kids are fine minus some bruises from their seat belts," says Dewey.

The family was returning from a trip to a car wash when they were hit by another vehicle that drifted across the median.

"In a split-second a car on the other side of El Dorado came at us head on," says Dewey.

Accident records show a teenager was distracted by her radio and drifted across the median and slammed into Dewey's SUV.

The external and internal bruises Dewey suffered were bad enough... but she was livid when she asked Frisco Police if the other driver would get charged or receive a citation.

"I asked what was she was ticketed with and they said nothing," says Dewey. "I was angry because that was an almost fatal car accident and there was no responsibility! She could have killed my entire family."

Frisco Police said citations are not always issued for accidents where someone is at fault. But Dewey says with so many distracted drivers out on the roads these days, they should.

"If you're drinking and driving you get charged with something, so what's the difference between playing with your radio and playing with your phone? Both kill families," says Dewey.
