Frisco Mom Reportedly Admitted To Killing Son

FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) - A mother from Frisco is facing murder charges in the death of her 10-year-old son after reportedly admitting to the crime.
Pallavi Dhawan has been arrested and charged with first degree murder. She has been accused of killing the young boy at the family home along Mountain View Lane.
Sources said that police found handwritten letters at the home which were left by the mother. However, they are not in English. Police are attempting to have these letters translated in hopes that they will explain what happened.
Arnav Dhawan was a fifth-grader at Isbell Elementary School, and officials there recently notified his father that the boy had been out of class for several days. Sources said that the child may have been dead for two or three days before his murder was discovered.
Dhawan's husband hid from cameras outside of the Frisco Police Department on Thursday as authorities announced the 38-year-old mother's arrest. He returned on Wednesday from an out-of-town trip and called police to the home, saying he was concerned for his wife and child.
According to a search warrant, the father told arriving police that his wife had left a few hours prior to pick their son up from an after-school tutoring center. He became concerned when she hadn't returned.
When Pallavi Dhawan arrived back at the home without the child, she indicated that she would like to speak with her husband first. Officers waited while the husband and wife spoke privately, but reported seeing the husband becoming noticeably upset during the conversation.
The husband then called police over, pointing towards a bedroom door, which was locked.
When officers asked the mother if the child was in the room, she nodded "yes", according to detectives. The mother nodded again "yes" when asked if she killed her child, according to police.
Police kicked down the door to the bathroom and found the child dead, wrapped in cloth in the bathtub.
"His body was wrapped up like a shroud, so to speak," explained Sgt. Brad Merritt with the Frisco Police Department. "He had plastic bags on his body."
But David Finn, the suspect's attorney, tells KRLD's Austin York that his client never admitted to the killing.
"Where they're getting that from at this point, I don't know. My client didn't confess to killing the boy; she didn't kill the boy. This allegation of an affirming nod is fiction."
According to the search warrant, the husband told police that the two were having marital problems in recent months. He also mentioned that his wife was coping with mental problems.
Police are still actively investigating this case, and as of Saturday, Feb. 1, Child Protective Services has joined the investigation.
The official cause of death has yet to be determined. Dhawan bonded out of jail at about 12:30 a.m. early Friday.
Meanwhile, people in the community have started to show their compassion by leaving notes and things on the home's walkway, most addressed to the young boy who died.
