Fraudulent Rowlett Officer Pulls Woman Over In Irving

IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) -- A concerned driver called 911 after being pulled over in Irving by an apparent Rowlett Police officer last week.

The marked patrol car had flashing lights and a police decal. The officer was carrying a gun and badge, while wearing an officer's uniform.

But the officer himself -- a fraud.

Brittany Williams was told that a warrant was issued for her arrest. In response, she called 911 to confirm. That's when the fraudulent officer took off.

"In this case, it appears that this person went out and bought a black and white Charger, put his own decals on, his own lights," said Rowlett Detective Cruz Hernandez. "Cause he has a top light on, a police uniform, gun belt, and a Rowlett Police badge."

A quick look on Craigslist reveals that retired police cars are readily available for sale online. It's unclear if this suspect purchased his vehicle online, but the search reveals how easy it is to do so.

Authorities say that calling 911 like Williams did is a good idea.

Another tip -- real police vehicles have exempt license plates containing only numbers -- no letters at all.
