AUSTIN (AP) -- Investigators say the deaths of four people whose bodies were found in the ruins of a house that burned in a rural area near Austin, Texas, were likely homicides.

Neighbors reported the house fire shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday about 13 miles southeast of Austin. Travis County sheriff's spokeswoman Kristen Dark says the bodies were found after the flames were doused and all showed wounds inconsistent with the fire -- probably gunshot wounds.

The identities of the dead have not been released, and Dark says the sheriff's office is appealing to the public for clues to motives and suspects.
