Fort Worth Throws 1st New Year's Eve Party
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - For the first time, North Texas revelers rang in the new year at Sundance Square in downtown Fort Worth. Fireworks lit up the sky as the clock struck midnight, and many believe that the party was long overdue.
The Cowtown Countdown got the crowd going, and a special moment came for one couple in the form of a surprise engagement. Most of those who attended the celebration said that they did not have to travel very far for the event. Some 6,000 people attended the Fort Worth event.
"It was beautiful," said Gloria Hentz. "Happy New Year!"
"This is great," added Colette Armour. "This is awesome. Absolutely awesome."
According to organizers, Fort Worth had never had a New Year's Eve party because there was never a good place for one. Now that the new Sundance Square Plaza is open, however, it made for the perfect spot. In fact, organizers are already planning for next year's Fort Worth celebration. More roads are already scheduled to be shut down and more bars are set to be included.
Meanwhile, folks in Dallas continued the tradition of gathering at Victory Park for the area's largest New Year's Eve party. Revelers at the celebration reflected on the past year and set goals for the new one.
