Fort Worth Teenager Dies After July 4th Fireworks Accident

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Fire investigators are looking into a firework explosion that killed a Fort Worth teenager Thursday.

Maneno Juma, 19, may have been holding or trying to launch a firework when it exploded on him, severely injuring his hand, arm and chest.

First-responders received reports of a burn victim on the 4800 block of Virgil Street, where they found Juma in cardiac arrest.

Fort Worth Fire EMTs and MedStar paramedics both performed CPR on the teen and took other lifesaving measures, but he was later pronounced dead at John Peter Smith Hospital.

This was one of the five significant trauma events the fire department had on the Fourth of July, and today they said more incidents were being reported that were not called in Thursday night.
