FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A 10-month-old girl died late Monday night, August 22 in a Fort Worth home while in foster care.
Her mother has hired an attorney.
The mother tells CBS11 she had seen both of her children on Wednesday and they appeared to be doing well.
The children were removed from their birth parents' home in February. Child Protective Services had placed them with a foster family. Since then, the birth mother had been visiting them each week.
The child's mother told CBS11 the infant was born two months premature and had a condition where she would stop breathing. But she said the baby outgrew the condition by the time she was 4-months-old.
On Monday night, the mother says she received a call saying her baby had died.
Fort Worth Police say paramedics were performing CPR on the infant when officers arrived after receiving a call about the child not breathing. She was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The FWPD Crimes Against Children Unit is leading the investigation.
No criminal charges were filed and the investigation still open.
The biological mother told CBS11 her kids were removed from the home because of allegations of abuse, malnutrition and drug use in the home.
CPS has not confirmed why the children were put in foster care and adds there were no signs of outward abuse or injury to the child.
This is a developing story.
