Fort Worth Patrol Horse Dies After Injury

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The Fort Worth Police Mounted Unit recently suffered the death of one of its veteran patrol horses "Major."

Police say Major suffered "an unforeseen injury during our training day."

Sergeant Steve Enright says, "Major was a 13 year old sorrel gelding who had been a vital part of our everyday operation and served in this capacity since 2011."

Officer Shana Burchfield had been the sole rider of Major since he joined the team.

Major was one of the eight horses selected to represent the citizens of Fort Worth and the Fort Worth Police Department at the upcoming Republican National Convention held this July in Cleveland, Ohio.
