FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Fort Worth Police shared some good news Monday night.

Officer Matt Pearce, who was shot in the line of duty in March of this year, will return to work at the Fort Worth Police Department on light duty status on Tuesday, October 18.

Pearce will be assisting with record keeping in the Tactical Medic Unit based at Meacham Airport.

Pearce spent nearly two months in the hospital after being shot seven times while trying to serve an arrest warrant.

It was March 15 when authorities were attempting to arrest Ed McIver Sr. on aggravated assault charges.

The suspect ran with his adult son into a wooded area, and officers followed. The chase ended with a gun battle that left Pearce injured and McIver dead.

The suspect's son, Ed McIver Jr. was taken into custody.
