Fort Worth Leaders Roll Up Their Sleeves For Flu Shots

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Health officials across Texas have been urging residents to get their flu shots and Wednesday leaders from Tarrant County and the City of Fort Worth set out to lead by example.
Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price joined Health Director Vinny Taneja and rolled up their sleeves to get their flu vaccinations.
September 2 is Stop the Flu Day in Tarrant County and Taneja repeated the words being uttered by all state health workers. "The best prevention against the seasonal influenza virus is a flu shot."
Doctors say it's important to remember that after getting a flu shot it takes about two weeks for protective antibodies to develop in your body. The flu is contagious and is often spread by coughing and sneezing.
Dallas County Health and Human Services kicked off a flu awareness campaign on September 1 that includes offering $20 flu shots for adults at the main clinic on Stemmons Freeway.
