Fort Worth ISD Breaks Ground On New Student Aviation Center

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Some students in the Fort Worth Independent School district are truly being encouraged to soar like eagles. Last week, the district broke ground on a new aviation hangar and classroom.
Interim Superintendent Patricia Linares arrived by helicopter at the future site of the Paul Laurence Dunbar High School Aviation Hangar. She was greeted by dozens of students from Dunbar, Board of Education members and school partners Bell Helicopter, Lockheed Martin and Tarrant County College.
Dr. Linares told the crowd, "The new aviation center will provide Dunbar students a state of the art facility that will enhance their learning experience with hands-on aviation projects and industry based curriculum."
Aviation engineering and aviation technology will be taught at the new center and each course will provide students with the opportunity to earn certifications upon completion.
The projected cost for the new aviation engineering and technology hangar and classroom is more than $2.1 million.
The new center is scheduled to be complete and ready for students by January of 2016.
