FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) -  A man shot on the front porch of a home in Fort Worth may have been confused about where he was.

The shooting happened just after midnight in the 8500 block of Cove Meadow Lane near West Risinger Road in south Fort Worth.

Police said the homeowner was in his garage when a security camera app on his phone alerted him to someone at his front door.

Paramedics took the man was to John Peter Smith Hospital. Police said he was talking Wednesday afternoon and expected to recover.

A woman at the house immediately next door told CBS 11 the man at the door may have been on a strong sleep medication, and confused about where he was and what he was doing.

Police said the man who fired the shots was being cooperative with them and investigators were trying to sort out exactly what happened.

Police have not charged anyone in the incident.

"Though we don't want anyone to be injured or anything, a person does have the right to protect their property," said Officer Tracy Carter.
