FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The City of Fort Worth is going blue on Monday as part of a national movement that is gaining a lot of momentum. Three blocks of downtown's Main Street are closed for a rally that turned into a sea of support for law enforcement.

Hundreds of people were estimated to attend the 'Back the Blue' rally in Fort Worth on Monday. Everybody was asked to wear blue to show their support for local police officers.

This is part of a larger movement that has been gaining steam in recent weeks. Various other police departments across North Texas showed their support for officers in different ways last Friday. That included flashing red and blue emergency lights and even a balloon release in North Richland Hills.

These events come on the heels of the murder of Houston deputy Darren Goforth, who was shot and killed while filling up his patrol car with gas.

Fort Worth is among the cities that wants its law enforcement officers to know that they are appreciated.

The Fort Worth rally began Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the intersection of Main Street and 9th Street, in front of the Fort Worth Convention Center. Those who came out made their message of support clear through blue T-shirts, ribbons and wristbands. Police officers from other North Texas cities even joined the rally, standing united with their Fort Worth colleagues.

Elizabeth Branch is the wife of a Fort Worth officer. She was overwhelmed by the support on display Monday morning. "It just means a lot to know that people support police officers, and it's not just a bunch of people that want to be against them. There are peolpe that want to be for them. It means a lot to me, because he goes to work every night, and it's like, is he going to come home the next day?"

"I'm fearful for our officers, and pray to God that he watches over them," added police supporter Larry Maddox at the Monday rally. "I want our officers to know that we love and support them."
