Fort Worth Firefighter Seriously Injured After Being Hit While Responding To Crash

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A firefighter has been seriously injured after she was hit by a vehicle while responding to a crash early Tuesday morning in north Fort Worth, officials said.

The fire department said crews were responding to a crash on Highway 114 near FM 156 at around 5:50 a.m. when the firefighter, Shonna Moorman, was struck by another vehicle at the scene.

She was taken to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

"Moorman is now resting comfortably and has a long road ahead to recovery but is in good spirits and great hands," the Fort Worth Fire Department said in a news release Tuesday afternoon.

The department said when the fire engine arrived on scene, Firefighter Moorman approached the front of the engine she heard the sound of a vehicle coming to a rapid stop behind her.

She made the quick decision to continue moving toward the front of the engine to seek safety, but  she was unable to make it around the engine before being struck by the vehicle.
