FORT WORTH(CBSDFW.COM) - Fort Worth says its water department's been cited for failing to adequately treat some of its drinking water for a 21-hour period last week.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has cited the city for failing to properly disinfect the drinking water for a period of more than four hours at the Eagle Mountain Water Treatment Plant on February 16-17, 2015. The Fort Worth Water Department self-reported the violation to TCEQ.

About 30 million gallons out of 124 million gallons (24 percent) treated by all water plants in the system in the 24-hour period did not meet the requirements.  This violation requires the city notify all customers by mail and the city says it's working to accomplish that in the next two weeks. In addition, the city has posted the information on its website and will place an ad in the Star-Telegram.
