Fort Worth Apartment Fire Burns Mom & Child

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Emergency crews in Fort Worth responded to an apartment complex fire on Wednesday night. The incident took place just before 10:30 p.m. at the Antigua Village Apartments, located in the 5300 block of East Rosedale Street.

Firefighters were already at the apartment complex when the blaze began, assisting a resident with a medical situation. Other residents warned the workers about the fire. Crews arrived to find heavy flames on the second floor of an apartment building.

A 23-year-old mom and her 2-year-old child were living in the apartment unit which was burning, but both were able to escape on their own before firefighters arrived. They were transported to Parkland Hospital in Dallas with second-degree burns to their extremities. Firefighters also rescued a weeks-old puppy from the building.

The Fort Worth Fire Department was able to get the blaze under control just after 11:00 p.m. Wednesday night. The building sustained fire, smoke and water damage. The total number of displaced residents was not immediately known. The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
