Forney Student Arrested After School Threat

FORNEY (CBSDFW.COM) - An alleged plot to shoot up a North Texas high school was thwarted late Tuesday night. There is still an increased security presence at North Forney High School on Wednesday, but officials said that they have the suspect in custody.

The threat was made on Tuesday about a shooting that would take place the following day. A parent called officials after their child overheard another student's conversation discussing the alleged plan.

The Forney Independent School District posted details on Facebook, saying that the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office finished their an investigation at 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday night and took one person into custody. According to a report, the suspect is a 15-year-old student at the high school. He will be charged with exhibition of a firearm.

Deputies spoke with the teen and his father at their home. The boy did not have access to a weapon.

The suspect is now being held at a juvenile detention center in Greenville. Authorities insist that there is no longer a threat to the school district.

Classes continued as scheduled at the Forney school on Wednesday. However, additional police were monitoring the campus as a precaution. Still, some parents on Facebook said that they were keeping their kids at home on Wednesday anyway.

"I think there should have been an email or some type of message sent out to parents," said father Mark Stafford.

Alex Peters is a junior at North Forney High School. He attended band practice on Wednesday morning, but left afterward. "I know that he was arrested, but just in case," said Peters. "It's not something that I want to be around."
