DALLAS (CBSDFW) - Baker Mayfield transferred to the University of Oklahoma from Texas Tech in December of 2013 after being named the Big 12's Offensive Freshman of the Year. He'll now be the Sooners starting quarterback in 2015 according to reports from both the Oklahoman and  Tulsa World. Mayfield has been battling two-year junior starter Trevor Knight and sophomore Cody Thomas, who started the final three games of the 2014 regular season.

Citing a 'miscommunication' with the Texas Tech coaching staff, Mayfield decided to transfer schools. He let Oklahoma officials know that he would be enrolling into the university with the hopes of walking onto the football team. Mayfield eventually received a scholarship from the OU football program in October of 2014.
