Former OU Student, Racist Chant Leader To Speak Publicly

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The former University of Oklahoma student caught on camera leading a racist chant on a bus full of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity members will speak publicly Wednesday, after meeting with members from several African-American groups.
Levi Pettit, who has family in Dallas, has already spoken several times with Oklahoma State Senator Anastasia Pittman, who is chair of the state's Black Caucus and an alumna of the University of Oklahoma, about the video. Pettit was seen singing a chant which made reference to lynching blacks and indicating blacks would never be admitted to SAE. The video was posted online on March 9 and quickly went viral. Pettit was expelled and OU's chapter of the fraternity was shut down.
Pettit issued a written apology in the days after the video was made public, but has not yet spoken about his actions. Before he talks to the media alongside State Sen. Pittman, Pettit will meet privately with African-American students, civic leaders and local pastors.
