Former Garland Man Admits Aiming Laser Pointer At Helicopter

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) -  A dangerous stunt a year-and-a-half ago culminated in a guilty plea in federal court Tuesday morning.

Steven Alexander Chavez, Jr. who used to live in Garland admitted aiming a laser pointer at a helicopter back in August 2013.

The 23-year-old faces up to five years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.  Sentencing is set for June 3.

According to documents filed in the case, Chavez purposely aimed the beam of a laser at a DPS helicopter while it was flying over Chavez's friend's backyard.
