Former Forest Hill Police Officer Logan Barr Indicted For Murder Of Stabbing Suspect
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A Tarrant County grand jury indicted a former Forest Hill police officer for murder on Thursday, March. 10.
Logan Barr was arrested in July 2021 for the June 9 death of Michael Lee Ross Jr. and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon by a public servant.
The deadly shooting happened when officers were responding to an incident where a woman was stabbed to death outside a QuikTrip on Wichita Street and I-20 at around 5 a.m.
The suspect then ran away to a nearby creek.
Police said officers tried to fire bean bags at the suspect to get him to drop his knife.
At some point, officers fired gunshots at the suspect, killing him.
Through an investigation by the Texas Rangers, authorities determined Barr should be charged in the incident.
Barr faces five to 99 years in prison and a maximum $10,000 fine.
Barr's attorney, D. Miles Brissette, issued the following statement on the indictment:
"Former police officer Logan Barr was indicted for murder today for following the orders of his supervisor to fire at a knife-wielding man who had just brutally stabbed to death an innocent woman. The knife-wielding murderer refused to follow the repeated commands of Barr and his supervisor to put down his weapon and surrender. Barr's Sergeant shot the murderer several times with a less-than-lethal weapon, but he continued advancing on the officers. Barr was positioned between the murderer and Barr's female partner who was attempting to provide lifesaving aid to the innocent woman. We look forward to defending against these charges in court."
Barr was placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation after the indictment was issued, and has now been indefinitely suspended and dishonorably discharged from the department. Barr has appealed both his suspension and discharge.
