Flood Water Consumes Dallas-Fort Worth Area

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) — Before Saturday's rain, nearly 17 inches of rain fell across the Dallas area in May -- eclipsing a 1982 record of 13.66. Storms dumped as much as 7 inches across the area Thursday night alone. As of Saturday afternoon, eleven people were reported missing as a result of the storms and flash floods.
An unidentified man's body was found floating in the water Friday night at California Crossing in Northwest Dallas; that brings the death toll to 25 Texans who've been killed in storms since Memorial Day weekend. Authorities are investigating the cause of death, but they believe a flash flood is to blame.
The other Dallas-area death discovered Friday was a man who drowned in his truck after it was swept into a culvert in the suburb of Mesquite. He was identified as 47-year-old John Jeffrey Usrery.
The Trinity River in Dallas is nearly 12 feet above flood stage.

Flood waters yesterday surged across Loop 12 -- it remains closed between I-30 and Texas 356 in Irving until transportation officials pump out flood waters. Authorities tell CBS 11 it could take up to a week until the area will see drivers again.

In Fort Worth, the Tarrant Regional Water District is urging everyone to stay off the water in Eagle Mountain Lake, Lake Bridgeport, as well as any waterways near the recreational lakes.
