ROYSE CITY (CBSDFW.COM) - Floodwaters forced State Troopers on Sunday to shut down all westbound lanes of Interstate-30, east of Royse City near FM 1565, for several hours.

At one point late Sunday afternoon, traffic on the interstate was backed up for nearly 10 miles.

Many drivers found themselves stranded on Interstate-30 for hours with no way to exit the highway. "We thought we'd make it home before we would fill up," said nervous driver Brianna Avrit as the gas gauge on her car neared the empty mark. "We didn't think we would be sitting still for an hour."

By 9:00 p.m. on Sunday night, the water had receded enough for one westbound lane to open.

Sunday's heavy rainstorm also forced several other roads in and around Royse City to close. Royse City resident Jim Miller said that he has never seen this much flooding in the city, yet it did not completely catch him off-guard. "We had like six inches of rain in three hours," he said. "That will definitely do it."
