NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Officials with the Texas Lottery say "you" are to thank for breaking a record. During the fiscal year 2015, the Texas Lottery recorded $4.529 billion in gross sales.

Money from a portion of Texas Lottery sales go to the Foundation School Fund, administered by the Texas Education Agency, and to programs benefiting Texas veterans.

Texas Lottery executive director Gary Grief said, "The Texas Lottery has now contributed more than $18 billion to Texas public education and more than $52 million to Texas veterans."

But it's not just Lotto Texas bringing in the big bucks. Officials say scratch tickets also had a strong year of sales. In fiscal 2015, scratch ticket sales totaled nearly $3.5 billion in sales.

Grief said the big numbers are a big benefit to the Lone Star State. "This is the 12th consecutive year that the Texas Lottery generated more than $1 billion in revenue for Texas."

The Texas Lottery provides games including Powerball®, Mega Millions®, Lotto Texas®, All or NothingTM, Texas Two Step®, Pick 3TM, Daily 4TM, Cash Five® and scratch tickets.
