First Human Case Of West Nile Fever Reported In North Texas

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The first human case of West Nile has been reported in Kaufman County.
The Texas Department of Health confirmed the case about two weeks ago in Forney. A person in the Travis Ranch neighborhood contracted the fever, not the neuro-invasive form.
Steve Howie, Director of Emergency Management says Kaufman County as a rule doesn't spray for mosquitos.
Howie says it's also not cost effective for the county to do the spraying. Instead the homeowners associations take it upon themselves to spray for mosquitos - and Howie says since the case was reported the county has encouraged them to do just that.
This is the second human case of West Nile in Texas this summer. A neuro-invasive case was reported in Harris County in May.
