Couple Married 60 Years Dies In House Fire In Farmersville
COLLIN COUNTY, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - A husband and wife are dead after a house fire in far east Collin County.
The fire broke out on Maple Street, in Farmersville, around 4:00 a.m.
"Relatives actually called 911 saw the flames," said Police Chief Michael Sullivan.
Neighbors say the couple's adult daughter and her son live next door to the property and ran over with police and sheriff's deputies to try and rescue the pair but the flames were too intense.
"They broke the windows and her and her son they hollered, ya know , for her mom and dad, but it was too late I guess," said neighbor Loretta Kleinma. "There's no way they could get in. The fire was just too much."
Police say the retired couple, whose names have not been released, had lived in the home since 1963.
Fire crews arrived to find the home fully engulfed. Farmersville police Chief Michael Sullivan said, "Relatives actually called 911... saw the flames."
The body of one victim was found fairly early and first responders continued searching for the second person. That body was discovered just after 7:00 a.m., as firefighters continued to put out hot spots and work through debris.
Both victims were in their 80s.
The property is a total loss. The fire department even brought in a bulldozer to knock part of structure down.
The cause of the fire has not been determined. The Collin County fire marshal is heading the investigation.
