ALLEN (CBSDFW.COM) - An area firefighter and his wife are receiving some much needed help from several fire departments throughout North Texas. On Wednesday the Allen Firefighters Association was the latest to donate money to the family. The union's president Jeremy Painkin awarded the family a check for 500 dollars.

Scott Himes, a Prosper firefighter had reached out to his department and fellow brothers for help once he found out his wife Jessica needed life saving brain surgery for a rare tumor known as a Pineal Cystic Brain Tumor. The disease effects the center of the brain.

Without hesitation help in the form of donations began pouring in from many fire departments including those in Plano, Wylie, Little Elm, Celina, Prosper, and Allen.

Scott Himes said , "It's just humbling. It's been awesome to see what the brotherhood has done, and I'm just proud to be part of it."

The family's battle to rid Jessica of her brain tumor has become known as Jessica's Journey. The mother of two was previously working as a nurse, but had to leave her job in order to get treatment. It was at that point, the uncertainty of how they would pay for medical expenses became a reality.

Jessica added, "It is so easy to give and it is incredibly hard to receive. That's been the hardest part is really having to open myself and my family up and accept the help.

On behalf of the family Jessica express her gratitude by saying, "From the bottom of our hearts. Thank you. Thank you so much."
