Firefighter Drowns Amid Oklahoma, Texas Flash Floods

CLAREMORE, OKLAHOMA (CBSDFW.COM) — An Oklahoma firefighter was killed while performing a high-water rescue Saturday night in Claremore.

The Claremore Fire Department identified the first responder as Jason Farley, a nearly two-decade veteran firefighter. Farley was swept away by a rush of water; his body was later discovered in a storm drain. Another firefighter attempted to save Farley, but was instead knocked down by flood waters and had to be rescued himself.

In Oklahoma City. emergency crews scrambled to help residents deal with record-breaking rains. They performed 48 high water rescues Saturday night alone. This month marks the wettest month ever recorded in Oklahoma City history.
