Fired Barber Shop Worker Sentenced To Life In Boss' Death

DALLAS (AP) — A Dallas County jury handed down a life sentence to a barber shop worker accused of fatally shooting his boss.
Thirty-two-year-old Charles Dewayne Hooks pleaded guilty Tuesday in the 2013 death of Alejandro Fernandez.
Prosecutors reportedly presented evidence that after being fired Hooks returned to the shop and shot Fernandez in the chest as he was cutting someone's hair.
The barbershop owner's fiancée wept during her testimony.
Instead of a trial, a jury listened to testimony to determine his punishment, which ranged from five years to life in prison.
Defense attorney John Read said his client was upset about losing his job and also suffered from bipolar disorder.
Under the conditions of a life sentence, Hooks will be eligible for parole in 30 years.
