Fire Burns Vacant Dallas Apartment Building

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Investigators were at the scene of an apartment fire in Dallas early Friday morning. The incident happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. in the 2100 block of 52nd Street in the southeast Oak Cliff area. The building has been vacant for some time, and officials are now trying to determine who caused the blaze.
Dallas Fire-Rescue's first responders had to cut through a chain-link fence in order to reach the property. "When they arrived, they had fire coming through the second floor," explained Deputy Chief Bryan Williams. "It was burning through the roof, so pretty extensive fire showing when we got here."
Those flames were extinguished in about an hour and with no injuries reported.
Arson investigators suspect foul play, but have not yet determined who started the fire or how it began. A fire truck is being kept at the building for security purposes.
A backhoe was also brought out to take down a portion of the vacant building, which has now been deemed dangerous.
