Fire Burns Portable Dallas School Building

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Emergency crews in Dallas responded to a fire on Thursday morning at an elementary school. Flames first broke out shortly before 8:30 a.m. at Stemmons Elementary School, part of the Dallas Independent School District. The building is located in the 2700 block of Knoxville Street.

The blaze actually burned an outdoor portable unit with three rooms. It was unoccupied at the time. Classes have not been held in the building since 2012, and it was currently being used as a storage space.

Firefighters arrived at the scene quickly and managed to extinguish the flames in less than 30 minutes.

Jason Evans with Dallas Fire-Rescue said that nobody was hurt during this incident. The cause of the fire is now being investigated. It does not appear to be suspicious, Evans said.
