DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Prince Fielder is likely to undergo neck surgery, and will miss the rest of the season, according to Rangers general manager Jon Daniels.

Daniels told Ben Rogers and Skin Wade on 105.3 The Fan that he hadn't spoken to Fielder directly about if he's decided to have the surgery, but he expects it will happen sometime this week.

Daniels said Fielder's timetable is similar to 2014 when he had his first fusion surgery operation. Fielder underwent the surgery in May and missed the rest of the season. He returned in time for the 2015 season and hit .305 to go along with 23 home runs and 98 RBI.

It's not known at this time if he will be able to return to baseball following the procedure.

Daniels acknowledged in a press conference Monday that the team does have an insurance policy on Fielder, but declined to get into the specifics of it.

Fielder hit.212 with eight homers and 44 RBIs in 89 games, although Daniels said Fielder had been playing through pain for most of the season.
