FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — FC Dallas has signed veteran forward Carlos Ruiz for the stretch run in the regular season and the playoffs.

It's the second stint with FC Dallas for Ruiz, whose return makes him the third-leading active scorer in MLS with 88 goals in 182 games.

Ruiz, who turned 37 Thursday, has been playing with Municipal in his home country of Guatemala since 2014. He had 46 goals in 87 games there.

After starting his MLS career with the LA Galaxy in 2002, Ruiz joined FC Dallas in a trade three years later. He scored 31 regular-season goals and had five more in six playoff games over three seasons with FC Dallas.

Ruiz had 68 goals for the Guatemalan national team, retiring after scoring five goals in a 9-3 win over Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in a World Cup qualifier on Sept. 6.
