FC Dallas Gets No Kick Out Of The Snow

FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM) - FC Dallas players aren't letting the snow keep them from preparing for their season opener Saturday.

Snow was piled up throughout Toyota Stadium early Thursday.  You couldn't even see the field.  Crews had to clear about five inches of snow off the field in time for an afternoon practice.

"The tractors are getting a workout," says Allen Reed, the Director of Stadium Grounds for FC Dallas.  "The crews finally could get in and they'll have a workout with the shovel push."

At one point, they used the leaf-blower but decided the shovel was still more effective.

To avoid tearing up the grass, crews placed PVC pipe on the front of the tractor's blade.  The plan is to let the snow melt from the field and seats.

Back in 2008, Reed says they had to work fast to get the field ready.  "We cleared the stadium filed of six inches of snow on a game day," says Reed.  "It was "International Friendly" and it was a sellout game, so we got out about 11 a.m. and had it cleared by 6 p.m. ready for the 8 o'clock kick."

During the preseason four years ago, FC Dallas played in the snow.  They used an orange ball back then so they could see it, but the team didn't get any this year.
