FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A father who accidentally ran over his daughter as she was trick-or-treating on Halloween is still in shock. It happened on Cannonwood Drive near Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Worth. An Iraq War veteran, Anthony Moon has experienced his fair share of unnerving situations, but what he heard that night he won't soon forget.

"I just heard a death curdling scream," said Moon. "I didn't know what I did."

He had ran over his 10-year-old daughter, breaking her leg and trapping her underneath the family's min-van.

"I didn't see her," said Moon. "I saw my family over there and for some reason or another I thought they were all together."

He said he didn't see his daughter, Aika because she was kneeling down near the passenger headlight looking at her candy.

The little girl underwent surgery and is currently home recovering. She said she hopes she won't need crutches anymore by next summer.

Her family is grateful for prayers and the children in the neighborhood who have offered their candy since Aika's Halloween ended with a trip to the hospital.

"Thank you she has plenty of candy still," said Anthony Moon, in response. "Just send your prayers."

The family said next year they plan on staying home and having a haunted house; passing out candy instead of trick-or-treating.

Fort Worth Police said it was an accident and won't file charges against Moon.
