Fate Of Denton's Fracking Ban Still Undecided

DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - City leaders late Tuesday night had still not made a decision on whether to throw out Denton's fracking ban. Dozens of people addressed the council, and many were still waiting to have their voices heard after the council meeting had already been going on for hours.
The issue is what to do now that Gov. Greg Abbott signed House Bill 40 into law, effectively overturning the fracking ban that Denton voters had passed in November. Fracking resumed this week, and protestors have been trying to block drilling operations.
Members of Frack Free Denton showed up in force to address a mostly sympathetic city council. Speaker after speaker came to the podium to oppose fracking, insisting that no matter what happens at the meeting, the fight against fracking will continue.
"You've got the anger and the frustration where you want to go after them now, but then you also have this other side that says, no, let's just wait a minute and see what we can maybe think about doing down the road when we might have a little better legal chance," said Ed Soph of Frack Free Denton.
What was not heard on Tuesday night was much in the way of support for fracking. Energy industry representatives did not have an apparent presence.
Many of the speakers urged the council to table a vote on whether to repeal the ban, so it was not clear if there would be a resolution by the end of the night.
