DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) -- The westbound lanes of LBJ Freeway (Interstate-635) in Dallas were closed Wednesday morning after a pedestrian was hit and killed while attempting to cross the roadway.

Police say a 38-year-old male was struck by a Nissan SUV in the 2500 block near Interstate-35. The impact from the initial collision caused the man to land nearly 100 feet away.

He was then struck by approximately five other vehicles, police say.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner was called to the scene, though the victim has not yet been identified. Next of kin has not yet been notified.

The highway reopened just before 9:30 a.m.
