Fan Favorite 'Cowboy' Cerrone Returns In UFC 182 Co Main Event
DALLAS, Texas (105.3 THE FAN) - When it comes to the most active fighters in The UFC, they don't get much busier that Saturday night's UFC 182 co main event competitor, Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone.
The #4 ranked lightweight will be competing for the fifth time in a calendar year, when the average number of annual appearances for other fighters is closer to two. That's just the way Cerrone likes it, and Saturday night he will look for his sixth win in a row against the undefeated Miles Jury.
Listen to Richard Hunter talk to Donald Cerrone about Saturday's co main event:
Cerrone is quick to point out that, while technically undefeated as a professional, Jury lost on "The Ultimate Fighter" reality show, which is counted as an exhibition rather than a pro fight. He says he doesn't know much about Jury and has never seen him fight (typical for Cerrone who focuses more on his own training that watching film of opponents), but he knows that Jury has never faced the level of competition that "The Cowboy" offers.
Cerrone has long been considered a title contender, and while he does have a pair of loses to champion Anthony Pettis (before Pettis held the belt) and top contender Raphael dos Anjos, a win Saturday night would certainly make a case that Cerrone might be just one fight away from getting a shot at lightweight gold.
The lightweight contenders' matchup will serve as Saturday's co main event, immediately preceding one of the most anticipated title fights in UFC history. Light heavyweight champion Jon "Bones" Jones will seek to defend his title against undefeated Olympic wrestler Daniel Cormier. The two men share a genuine dislike for each other, and tensions boiled over this past fall at The MGM Grand in Las Vegas when a photo opportunity to hype the fight turned into an all out brawl between the two of them in the hotel lobby.
UFC 182 airs Saturday night exclusively on pay per view (7pm PT/9pm CT) from The MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
