EXCLUSIVE: Dez 'Not Being Foolish' But 'Feeling Good'

By Mike Fisher | @fishsports

DALLAS (The Fan) - Dez Bryant and I visited this morning near the Dallas Cowboys weight room, where he noted, "Things are going perfectly. My foot feels great. Feels like it's healing great.''

Bryant underwent a procedure to repair the fifth metatarsal in his foot, leading to all-over-the-map speculation about his return for the All-Pro receiver.

Sources tell me it's a "super-aggressive approach'' designed to speed healing, prevent a re-break, and have him back in six to eight weeks following the surgery...and Bryant is nothing if not "super-aggressive.''

"Yes, I want to come back faster than people expect,'' Dez told me. "That (errant speculation) motivates me.''

Bryant, amid a flurry of reports that suggested he did something wrong by removing his boot to walk through the locker room on Tuesday, assures he's doing everything under medical supervision - including the occasional removal of his boot.

"But I'm not doing anything foolish and I'm not going to do anything foolish,'' he told me. "I'm not even jogging yet! But I'm doing everything (the medical people) tell me to do, weight room, everything.''

Added owner Jerry Jones, watching practice: "The pain is going away by the day, and that's important.''

Since 2004, 25 NFL players have undergone a procedure similar to Bryant's. I'm told they were back on the field from between 5.9 weeks to 13.9 weeks — an average of 8.7 weeks.

Bryant has no intention of being "foolish'' … but he has no intention of being on the backside of that average, either.

"We're on track for where we need to be,'' Dez said."It's all good news.''
