DALLAS(CBSDFW.COM) - A jury convicted Delvecchio Patrick of murder after deliberating less than three-and-a-half hours Friday.

Patrick intentionally drowned his ex-wife, Deanna Cook in her bathtub in August of 2012.

Cook's killing is one of the cases that led to sweeping changes in the way that Dallas dispatchers handle emergency 911 calls. The victim called 911 for help during the attack, but her body was not found inside of her apartment until two days later. In that recorded 911 call, you can reportedly hear the victim being drowned and begging for her life.

Emergency dispatchers did not mark the call as 'critical.' When police officers first arrived at Cook's home in southeast Dallas, they left after knocking and getting no response. Family members later discovered her body.

The punishment phase begins Tuesday.
