Engineers To Provide Allen Stadium Update
ALLEN (CBSDFW.COM) - The most expensive high school football stadium in the country is closed indefinitely and, on Monday, officials are set to provide an update on the building's status, including when repair work on the $60 million complex could begin.
The briefing is set to come at an executive session of the Allen Independent School District's board, where engineers will give a presentation and explain what needs to be done in order to fix Eagle Stadium. However, according to a school board member, the briefing by the Nelson Forensic Engineering Group will not be made public for several days.
A preliminary report stated that various cracks in the concourse concrete are so bad that they have compromised safety and, therefore, made the structure not compliant with building codes.
As of right now, nobody can use the football stadium, at least through the end of the year. Football games in the fall are set to be played in Plano until this stadium issue can be resolved. The briefing on Monday should help school board members know when a final report will be ready and when repairs can begin. That, in turn, is expected to help board members know just how long the stadium needs to remain closed.
"I'm hoping to see some options for those repairs," said Allen ISD school board president Louise Master early Monday, "so that we can sit down at the table with PBK and Pogue and decide what the best options are." PBK is the architecture group which designed the stadium, and Pogue is the construction company which built it. They are expected to the foot the bill for the repairs, Master said.
