Elderly Residents Dealing With Bed Bug Infestation

PARKER COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - Mary Mills, 73, can easily point out the bed bugs on her covers inside her bed room at the Spring Garden Apartments in Springtown. "See here… those are bed bugs," said Mills. She has had to deal with the pesky bed bugs for several weeks now. "I'm 73 and I shouldn't be living like this," says Mills "I'm frustrated."

Spring Garden Apartments are part of a federally funded housing program. Executive director of Affordable Housing of Parker County, Mike Swan says he oversees everything at the apartment complex. Swan says five apartments were infested and he's personally making sure Mills' apartment will be taken care of.

"We don't like to see the tenants go through this hardship with moving their stuff," explains Swan. "The other units have been sprayed twice hers has been sprayed once and it'll get sprayed again this week."

Swan says the spraying may happen as early as Wednesday. But Mills says she just wished it could happen sooner.

"Somebody needs to get something done 'look at me I'm an old woman I shouldn't be going through this,'" says Mills. "I'm not the one who called you guys but somebody did and I'm glad they did."

The tenants say a case worker with Adult Protective Services was on the property Monday. The agency says because of confidentiality it can't give out any information about what the case worker was doing there.
