EF-1 Tornado Weaves Path Of Damage In Wise County

NEW FAIRVIEW (CBSDFW.COM) - The national weather service said an EF-1 tornado was on the ground for three miles in Wise County last night affecting an area about 200 yards wide.

People outside the town of New Fairview were busy putting tarps on roofs, sifting through debris and sorting through the damage on Friday.

Members of the Cavanaugh family were in their manufactured home when the tornado struck and lifted the building off the ground.

"I saw my trampoline flying," said 14-year-old Trinity Cavanaugh. "We all started running and we ran in the closet. We were up in the air. I got slammed to the floor. My aunt was holding onto the bed set. The windows started breaking and 10 seconds later it was over with."

The weather service the twister traveled about 25-feet off the ground snapping limbs, grazing rooftops and scattering debris.

"Stuff was coming out my bedroom window," said Cavanaugh's aunt, Kellye Bellah. "Now I know how Dorothy felt."

The Cavanaughs are coming to grips with the fact their home is destroyed.

"We don't have a home," Cavanaugh said as tears welled up in her eyes. "We don't have no where to go."

Red Cross is putting the family up for a few days but the Cavanaughs said they don't have insurance and don't know where they will go next.
