LEWISVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) - Emergency crews across North Texas responded to several crashes involving big rigs late Thursday night and early Friday morning, including a particularly nasty one in Lewisville. It happened at around 2:30 a.m. on Friday in the northbound lanes of Interstate-35E, just north of Valley Ridge Boulevard.
According to police, a drunk driver caused the mess when they slammed into the back of a larger dump truck at a construction zone. The crash sent the truck into a concrete barrier, tipping it over and spilling fuel onto the highway.
Authorities arrested the driver of the car for DWI. That person's name has not been released.
There have been no reports of injuries.
The truck was stuck on the barrier for nearly four hours, as crews worked to get the back portion untangled from this concrete barricade and back upright. A tow truck crane helped remove the cab of the truck. However, the fuel cleanup is still creating a traffic nightmare.
Vehicles crawled along this stretch of the interstate early Friday morning, as northbound traffic was detoured onto the service road at Valley Ridge Boulevard. There has been no indication as to when the scene will be cleared. Check the traffic map for an updated list of all North Texas road closures.
This was just one of five big rig crashes along DFW highways in the overnight hours. Three others in Dallas have already been cleared, while one in south Fort Worth continues to snarl traffic.
