Suspected drunk driver speeds from accident, dies in second crash, Arlington police say
ARLINGTON – A driver who rear-ended one vehicle sped from the scene, crashed into a bus and died Friday evening, Arlington police said.
Officers responded just before 7 p.m. to the deadly crash at Division Street and North Davis Drive. A man driving a Chevrolet Cruze had collided with a bus and was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say he was not wearing a seatbelt.
The bus driver, the only person on board, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say as officers were investigating that crash, they discovered that the Cruze was involved in another crash on Division Street and Cooper Street, less than a mile away.
A woman driving a pickup truck told officers that the Chevrolet Cruze had rear-ended her at a red light, and both drivers pulled over to exchange information.
She told officers that she became concerned that the other driver was drunk, and told him she was calling the police. She said he then got back in his car and took off.
Police say they found containers for alcohol inside the wrecked car.
All lanes on Division Street between Davis and Fielder were shut down for about five hours until they were "cleared for safe travel," police said.
The suspect has not yet been identified.
