Driver Dies After Car Plunges Into Lewisville Pond

LEWISVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) -- One person was killed early Thursday morning when his rental car crashed into a small pond in Lewisville.

The incident occurred just before 1 a.m. along Waters Ridge Drive near Corporate Drive.

Police say a man in his 30s was driving a rental car at a high rate of speed down Waters Ridge Drive when he lost control and plunged into the water. He did not appear to be wearing a seat belt.

A woman at a nearby apartment complex heard the crash and looked outside to see the vehicle sinking.

A dive team was called in to extract the vehicle. The man was found dead inside.

Police have not released the victim's identity, but did say that the man is not from the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
