BARROW COUNTY, GA (CBSDFW.COM) - An officer in Georgia is recovering from injuries after being run over by a vehicle during a traffic stop on Saturday, August 27.
According to CBS 46 in Georgia, a spokesperson with the Barrow County Sheriff's Office said Statham police officer Marc Lofton was trying to place 28-year-old Jessica Fox under arrest during a traffic stop when she sped off.
Dramatic video released by police allegedly shows the combative suspect refusing to cooperate with the officer. As the incident progresses, the officer appears to deploy his Taser. The suspect jumps in her vehicle and drives off with the officer hanging on.
Fox ran over both of Lofton's legs, according to authorities.
Police say Fox was wanted for probation violation, and arrest warrants are being processed for speeding, failure to yield, driving on a suspended driver's license, giving a false name and date of birth to law enforcement, fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, aggravated battery on a police officer and aggravated assault on a police officer.
Officer Lofton was taken to the hospital.
The incident occurred just after 5 p.m. on Aug. 27 in Statham, which is about 55 miles northeast of Atlanta.
