Dr. Linares "Thrilled" To Fill Interim Superintendent Job

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A familiar face will be heading up Fort Worth ISD until the district finds a permanent replacement. The school board appointed Dr. Pat Linares as Interim Superintendent.

She is taking over for Walter Dansby who suddenly resigned last week. Dr. Linares retired in 2010 as the Deputy Superintendent. She declined an on camera interview Tuesday morning, but did briefly talk to CBS 11 News.

"I'm thrilled! I'm happy! I'm honored," said Dr. Linares, who is from San Antonio. "My goal is to ensure that we continue stability and continue to move forward."

Dr. Linares has a long list of accomplishments including getting her superintendent's certification from the University of Texas at Austin. She started teaching in Dallas and worked her way up to principal before moving to Fort Worth ISD.

"This is going to go a long way to help the morale of the district," said Steven Poole, who is the Executive Director of United Educators Association "She's the perfect choice because she doesn't want the permanent position."

Poole said he likes that she's familiar with the history of the district.

"She served in many roles and knows a lot of the same people and processes. So she will be able to step in day one and know exactly what Fort Worth needs and steer it in the right direction."

Some parents who spoke to CBS 11 said they agree.

Yolanda Mendoza's children went to Fort Worth ISD and now her grandchildren are students. "I was very excited," said Mendoza. "She keeps up with everything and she had good ideas... I think she'll be good."

Dr. Linares' contract is expected to be finalized Friday afternoon. She said she's happy to help, but is content to move on once the district chooses its final candidate.
