DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas police have identified a woman who died after being shot in an Uptown parking garage.

Police say Kendra Hatcher was getting out of her car when people in the area heard at least one gunshot.

Now police are searching for a Jeep Cherokee that drove into the same parking garage, before Hatcher arrived. The vehicle is a boxy, older model Cherokee with damaged or faded paint on the hood and a paper license plate tag. The driver was able to access the gated parking garage by following another vehicle inside.

Police say they have increased patrols in the area, but are still asking citizens to be aware of their surroundings.

It was about 7:45 p.m. when Hatcher drove into the Gables Park 17 apartments parking garage in the 1700 block of Cedar Springs Road. Police say after Hatcher parked her car someone got out of the 'vehicle of interest' and appeared to approach her. After the witnesses heard what they thought was a gunshot the person got back in the Jeep and it drove out of the garage.

When officers arrived they found Hatcher, 35, dead next to her car.

Police would not specifically say if they believed the person or persons in the Jeep shot and killed Hatcher, but said anyone inside the vehicle would most "likely have information related to the offense."

Officials say the investigation is ongoing, but at this point they have no motive and continue to search for additional evidence. They're hoping that evidence will come from the public after seeing surveillance video photos.

Police are asking that anyone who recognizes the Jeep Cherokee or has information about the shooting contact the Dallas Police Department Homicide Unit at 214-283-4818.
